Nintendo is getting ready to release a new version of the DS handheld and has managed to excel in the gaming market for 20 years. Yet cellphone games are rising in popularity thanks to Apple!
Nintendo's profit went down 52% in the first half of their fiscal year, which ends in March, as sales of Wiis and DS gadgets decreased.
Research firm DFC Intelligence says that Apple producsts will take charge of portable gaming for the next five years!
Apple has access to thousands of different games at their App Store. Some are free to play while others can cost under $10. New Nintendo games starting price is $20.
People are going to the source with the most games for the better deal. The DS has limits while it seems Apple has none; or at least less. I've always been a Nintendo fan and I like Apple even though I don't know much about them. I wonder what it would be like if they should merge into one company? It's way too soon for talks like that.
However, that was an idea that flowed into my head.

Sweet article. I do belive that apple is taking over portable gaming. Especially since the i phone has been released. Everyone that I know with an i phone plays at least one or two games daily. I am a fan of apple as well.
ReplyDeleteApple may be starting to get into the hand-held genre and the price vs price issue might be in their favor but I'm sure Nintendo will find something to pull themselves up. I'd rather much have my DS over an iPhone because I trust a gaming company to supply games over a "so-called" PC company that can't support a PC video game.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Nintendo will come out with something that will put them back on top. Everyone I know plays games on their i phone all the time. I don't have any friends who play Nintendo but I am twenty two and so are all my friends.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Mac girl. I have an iPod Touch and have downloaded many games on it for free. It's nice to be able to have so many different games and other applications on one hand held device. However, I did meet a young man that came into my job a few days ago with a brand new Nintendo DS and it was touch screen as well as slid out from the side. I have never seen anything like it and it caught my eye. I'm not sure if that's the new version or not but if it is, it's going to sell a lot.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe nintendos profit went down 52%, that is crazy! I love nintendo. With the economy doing so poorly though, people are looking for good deals. Apple blows nintendo out of the water on that aspect. I like your idea, wondering what would happen if Apple and Nintendo merged together. I dought it will happen. A lot of companies are merging together these days so I guess it's not out of the question.
